One to Wake Up By...
When a young Father Tim was ready to give
his first first mass, he asked Bishop Franklin
what he thought of it. After reading the first three lines, Bishop Franklin
yawned. Not
wanting to discourage Father Tim, he told him this:
"If you see some of the parishioners starting to yawn, tell them I was in the
arms of
another man's wife last night. (Pause) It was my mother."
That Sunday, Father Tim started his homily he noticed people in the parish were
yawning.
He said, "I was in the arms of another man's wife last night. (Pause) I forgot
who she was."
A
Parishioner Remembers When...
I am not a member of the parish, but have occasionally attended 5 pm Mass on
Sundays over
the past 30+ years when I've been unable to attend Mass at my own church. The
true story
that follows happened during the Fall Festival sometime in the 1970s:
It was a warm September day about 30 years ago when Our Lady of Lourdes was
having their
annual Fall Festival. As I arrived for
on the premises. The joyful noise could also be heard inside the church as the
windows
were open to allow in outside air. It was a bit distracting, but did not
interfere with
Mass, at least not until the reading of the Gospel. The priest approached the
ambo and
began to read "And Jesus said to his disciples..." (as if on cue, a loud male
voice from
outside the church continued) "...Come on, everybody, let's play Bingo!"
