Hi Friends! I’m Deacon Dennis Duff, and I’m currently assigned to Our Lady of Lourdes parish. I’m originally from the plains of North Dakota, as is my wife Linda. We were raised in small farming communities and attended Notre Dame (Our Lady) Church in Willow City, where we attended religious education (we called it Catechism in those days), were sacramentalized and then celebrated our marriage in 1970. My father’s mother, Grandma Nettie, was born in Sioux City and raised in McGregor, Iowa and my Mom’s father, Joseph Martin, was raised near Boubonnais, Illinois, so when we moved to Bettendorf, Iowa in 1979 I was in a sense returning to my roots. Bishop O’Keefe of blessed memory saw fit to ordain me to the Diaconate in 1984 and I’ve been fortunate to have been assigned to Lourdes my whole career. I’ve been associated with many aspects of ministry throughout the years but I suppose my main emphasis has been the proclamation of the Word of God through preaching and teaching. Linda and I consider ourselves blessed to be members of Lourdes faith community and we rejoice in the many close friendships we have found with our fellow parishioners. God Bless you!

I am Chuck Metzger, ordained Deacon June 8th, 2002, at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Davenport. My wife’s name is Donna and we have two daughters, Jennifer and Stephanie, and six grand-children. My parents were Elmer and Theresa Metzger and I was the last of six children. My only surviving sibling is my brother Elmer, who is also a member of this parish. We grew up in Davenport and belonged to Holy Family parish where I attended Holy Family School. After graduation from West High School, I went to technical school, then hired on with AT&T. I joined the Air Force in December 1967, spending one year in Viet Nam. Afterwards, I transferred with AT&T to Cascade, Iowa. Later I came back to Davenport, where I worked until 2000. After a four-month break, I took a position with Traffic Systems Solutions. Our clients are governmental entities responsible for traffic control. We go to our customers, which means frequent business trips. That explains why you don’t see me around here much on weekdays. I usually assist at Mass weekly and I am involved with the sacraments of baptism, confirmation and marriage, assist with RCIA, serve as Spiritual Director for retreats, etc. I am a Hospice Volunteer with Genesis - working with the terminally ill and their families and I am a mentor at Rick’s House of Hope - working with children coping with grief. |
