Social Action

 

The ministry of Social Action calls us to go forth beyond the walls of our church building and be “salt and light” in our neighborhoods and communities. We do this by providing direct service to those in need as well as encourage participation of parish members in the apostolic work of the church through many community programs.

 

Social Action Ministries at OLOL:

 

Angel Tree Gifts at Christmas

OLOL program provides needy families with parishioner provided Christmas presents.

Back Pack For Snacks Program

This program works with Lourdes Catholic School and Grant Wood School to provide, on a monthly basis, healthy and nutritious snacks to more than 37 needy school children of the area.

Bettendorf Food Pantry

We participate with The Churches United Network of Food Pantries to provide a free 3 to 5 day supply of basic food that will stave off hunger to those in need of assistance. We provide volunteers on Wednesdays from 9-11:00 AM and Tuesdays from 6:30-8:30 PM.

Birthright

This is an emergency pregnancy service that offers alternatives to abortion. Birthright believes that “It is the right of every pregnant woman to give birth, and the right of every child to be born.” We offer love, friendship and hope. Opportunities to volunteer include: Assist in counseling, drive to doctor’s appointments, knit, crochet, sew or purchase clothing and supplies for single mothers.

Churches United Meals

A ministry that helps feed the poor and underprivileged. Once a month, a group of OLOL volunteers prepare, deliver and serve a hot meal for approximately 75 people in downtown Davenport.

Flu Clinics

OLOL conducts on site, seasonal flu shots for parishioners, community.

Food Baskets

Collects parishioner donated food stuffs and distributes to needy of parish and community twice yearly.

LIFE Ministry

Assist with promoting and encouraging pro-life activities in the parish and community.

Outreach

Assist the needs of the poor and marginalized by allocating parish funds to organizations that provide support.

Peru Sister Parish

The mission of the Peru Partnership in Christ Committee is to help our sister parish, Our Lady of Reconciliation, Arequipa, Peru, to improve the quality of their physical, economic social and spiritual lives. Our vision is to do this through a long term relationship with this parish, through partnerships and projects and by working within the needs discerned by the parish. Quad Cities Interfaith

Work with peoples of all faiths on larger issues that affect our parish as well as the Quad Cities.

Red Cross Blood Drive

As a parish, OLOL conducts blood drives in conjunction with QC Red Cross in July and October.

Wellness Committee

Develop and implement projects that promote the spiritual, physical and emotional well being of our parishioners.
